I bought this cool old mailbox on a whim at the thrift store the other day. It's not in bad shape, black with a red stick-up thing and the door has an eagle and says US Mail. I like it the way it is, I don't want to paint it. But I have no idea what to make it into! All I can come up with is umbrella stand.. taking a little end table, sawing off the stem and legs and attaching it to the bottom of the mailbox. But I don't really need an umbrella stand. Ideas I like less are planter (we've got one window in the whole apartment) and a lamp, by punching holes in the tin and sticking a bulb inside. I just don't think it'd come out looking nice. Any ideas would be really great!!

Thanks trusty craftsters!

No one has sent you any ideas yet?

You could use it in your kitchen, on the counter as place to store foil, waxed paper, and saran wrap.

Or, you could use it as a mailbox--put it by the door on a table or stand of some kind, as a place to stash your mail when you walk in the house.

My other ideas are all also storage-based.  But let me keep thinking.

You could totally use it as a single-loaf bread box! OMG, now *I* want a cool old mailbox for a bread box!!!

You may place it near your front door and use it as box for knickknacks like car keys, spare coins, etc.  Yes, you can make it into a coin bank.  Cute! Cheesy
