I'm talking about that one on Kirkwood Highway that just opened recently.

I was a bit surprised at the selection--based on other bead stores I've been to in other states, I thought there would be a wider selection. Guess I'll have to stick to AC Moore and Michaels for the basics. It looks like it would be good for more specialty beads, like the Bali silver and semi-precious gems, though.

I always forget to check the delaware board to see if anyone has posted.  Smiley

Thanks for reporting on the bead store!  I keep meaning to check it out, but I think I'll wait till I need some nice beads for finishing touches on x-mas projects

Hi,

I just wanted to say Hi to other Delaware crafters!  I haven't been to Sparkles yet.  I order from Fire Mountain Gems mostly.  I have been to Beadworks in Philly, and the bead store in Olde Ridge Village.  I have started chain maille over the last year, so I'm ordering from the Internet for that new obsession.

Where is it on Kirkwood Highway?
I'm from New Jersey, but I go to the University of Delaware so I've been watching this board too!

Sparkles is in pretty much the first big shopping center on Kirkwood Highway, the one with Perkins, Outback, etc. in it.  It's towards the back.

(haven't been there yet, I'm too much of a yarn junkie to get addicted to beads!)

Can anyone (pretty please) give me an idea of the selection at this bead store? My bf lives in Newark and we always drive by the store, but usually after hours. Maybe if they've got stuff I'm interested in I'd be sure to stop by when they're open  Cheesy
Thanks so much!

I go to Sparkles a lot for the special (and expensive) beads.  Its a small store about 15 feet by 25 feet with beads hung on the walls and a few tables in the center.  A strand of 20 beads can cost anywhere from 5 to 15 dollars, but I always just go up Kirkwood Hwy to AC Moore to get the smaller beads and supplies.  It's a fun store and their stock changes fairly often.  If you are into beading you should totally check it out.

I used to live in Va Beach, where the nearest bead store was run by a surf bum and you walked in to a small room with just piles of beads thrown about and in baskets.  You really had to dig through them, and then the old dude gave you a muffin tin to put them in.  Sparkles is a totally different world!
