I made this cake for my son's 4th birthday.  He is obsessed with Mario (pretty much thinks he is Mario).  For the pattern, I used a sprite from Super Mario World.  The "pixels" are M&Ms (blue, yellow, orange, brown,  and some reds), Hershey's Special Dark Pieces (black, maroon, and some reds), Almond Joy Pieces (tan), and generic chocolate gems (white, purple).  The colors are not exactly as they are in the sprite, but about as close as it comes in candy. Smiley

This shot shows the scale a little better.  I also crocheted the logo on his hat, which is so filthy because he wears it 24/7 and won't let me wash it.

Please ignore the sloppy borders and lettering.  The cake didn't travel well. :S  Anyway, I had fun making it, and I hope you enjoy looking at it.

I love this idea!  I might borrow it for my boyfriend's birthday.  But i'll probably use different candies since he doesn't eat chocolate.  Your son must have been thrilled with such a cool cake!  Your an awesome mom! Grin

Mario ftw! My oldest nephew would love a cake like this. Him and I are huge Mario fans!
