Free People knock off top

I saw this top on Free People

and thought it was really cute/interesting, but a little pricey. I decided it would be fun to try to make my own, considering I already had all the materials. I began by using a basic black camisole I had at home. I cut the front and back sections out of the cami and added the greenish color panels, which were pieces from an old t-shirt. I added some shirring at the top of the back panel as well. Then I added the black ruffles around the bottom, material which was taken from the bottom hem of an old dress that I had lying around in my fabric collection. Next I added the blue and grey stretch lace. Originally, I had the black ruffles only going around the sides, but I thought the back looked kind of plain so I added the ruffles to the back as well. Finally, I used an old pair of jeans that I had already cut up for another project to make the strips down the front and back.

All and all I am pretty happy with how the top turned out. I am still playing around with how much to “clench” the ties in front. The only issue I’m not too happy with is the fact the back wrinkles (develops rolls) a bit when you where it.

This is cute. Don't worry about the wrinkles, knits and things without boning can not lace like a corset, they scrunch. But this looks nice, as long as you don't tie it to tight it should be just fine

Thanks zowiewoahie! I realized after I made it that it was probably a lot tighter fitting then the Free People one, which also causes it to bunch. The front seems to do ok, but the back gets a lot of ripples. I will try your suggestion a not lace it so tight.
