Her/His etched glasses housewarming gifts

Recently two different coworkers embarked on a cohabitation adventure with their significant others. To celebrate their new apartment/Home I made them sets of Her/His glasses.

and of course I had to gift'em in a decorative bag



I usually just use regular painters tape but still wind up with some spots that don't have clean lines. Anyone know of anything that works better?

Very nice, I have had no luck with etching, and probably because the brand is cheaper, so live and learn. Great job with these.

Could you use contact paper instead? it might make cleaner lines?

I really love the silhouette motives.
 
I've had a lot of success using fabric paint to make the stencils. It doesn't usually bleed underneath because it forms a seal on the glass, and after you're done with the etching cream it peels right off.
Also, if you buy the ones with the application nozzles it can give you a lot of control when drawing on the stencil.

I prefer frog tape to the regular blue painter's tape. You can get it at Sherwin Williams, it's pretty expensive, about $7 a roll here, but I think it is completely worth the money. If you clean the glass with rubbing alcohol before applying the tape and press down the edges really well with something like a burnisher or plastic bone folder you will get a much cleaner edge. From your photos, the lines look really nice and crisp, maybe you are just being too critical of your work    And of course I must comment on the freakin' adorable gift bag! So lovely!

Great idea! How do you make the designs with the painters tape? (I've never done etched glass before).
