I saw this a couple weeks ago and knew that my friend would LOVE it for her birthday. I made up my own pattern, so it's not exactly the same shape, but here it is (this is my first post, so I'm not allowed to actually put the photos on here, but the links are below):

And here's the pattern I made/used:

I cut two from the lining fabric and two from the outside fabric, then cut shapes for the wings, belly, and beak. I used yo-yos with buttons for the eyes, and this tutorial for the zipper: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=176509.0

I may "borrow" the idea.  I have a relative-in-law that loves bags for storing things - and owls! 

But I may skip the "feathers" and just add some outside pockets as wings!
