Here's my needle case that I finished yesterday. I added an extra row of pockets for dpns and I made the front and the flap one continous piece because it seemed to lay better. I am really happy with the way it turned out, but on my next one I am going to add a pocket or two. *robyn

I'm sewing mine by hand and it is taking forever!! Really need to get a sewing machine! Love the idea of the extra layer for pockets in front!

I finished my "sew your own needlecase" last night. The printed fabric is vintage & I didn't have quite enough so I made the flap bigger so it would be long enough for my needles. I also took the idea of adding a second set of pockets for circulars & dpns.

Did you guys use "upholstery" fabric for yours? I looked around the fabric store the other day and the only cute things I found were all 100% cotton. Is there a special area of Joann's or the fabric store that I should be buying from? I don't wanna spend all the time hand-sewing this and then have my needles do a number on it!

My mom offered to make this needlecase for me. Thanks to all of your pics, I've got lots of ideas for modifications. Smiley I love the double layer and slanted pocket ideas!

Nope, I didn't & I don't think most others here did either (just by the looks of theri cases).  I just doubled up on the fabric for mine. So at the points when you fold you actually have 4 pieces of fabric BUT, I don't even think that was really necessary. So I don't think you need to get upholstery fabric at all.  Good luck!

Ugh. I got "quilting" fabric and it felt so thin so I doubled it up. I think the measurements in that are slightly off. I ended up having double what I needed of the smaller pieces. I should have done the math myself instead of trusting it. But I did get good fabrics in red, black, royal, blue & purples. So we'll see. I think I will have enough to make two. Anyone want one for the cost of shipping & fabric?  Wink

you guys are all geniuses with this second row business!  my dpns keep falling out of their too big spot.  this is mine, i call it my samurai sword case, cause it reminded my boyfriend of the cases that samurais keep their swords in.
