That uses bobby pins as stitch markers? I needed a stitch marker a few weeks back and had lost the doodad i usually use decided to try one to see if it works and i haven't looked back since

I've heard of people using bobby pins as stitch markers, but I've never done it.  I tend to forget that stitch markers exist, but the odd time I do remember I usually use a contrasting piece of scrap yarn.

I do too! They are lying everywhere in my house and work really well especially if I can find the brightly colored ones

ooh brightly coloured ones. Where do you get those? I can only find boring black or brown ones

I found some at a dollar store. I am tempted to try and paint some of the plain ones as I have not been able to get them again and I love all things bright. I think sometimes you can get them at places like target too, it just depends on luck

i usually use twist-ties.  bobby pins would probably be better.

I used to make little "J" shapes out of lock wire with a big spiral at the bottom of the letter and a small spiral at the top of it, then inserted it small spiral first into the relevant stitch. Then I magically got faster at crochet and they began flying out of my vigorously crocheted hats Now I use safety pins, because they close and can't take a dive on me.

I think I'd get annoyed with having to pry a bobby pin out of a stitch every row.

I use safety pins. I like that you can close them and they wont fall out. I buy all sizes for different sized projects!

I have done it a few times and it worked fine, but I'm just as apt to use a stray scap of yarn. I also have some little circular plastic locking stitch markers that I often use not as stitch markers but to hold the final stitch when I put a project away unfinished.

However, I recently learned that you can use bobby pins in sewing to turn narrow tubes of fabric. I know this isn't the sewing board, but here's the tutorial for anyone who's interested. It's amazing how fast it works.

I started using bobby pins the other day! I usually use actual stitch markers but I can't find any at the mo, so I used a bobby pin I've also been known to use scrap yarn and safety pins

I have a box of paperclips that I use as stitch markers.

I use bobby pins - I've found they're a lot easier than the plastic stitch markers to get on and off.

I've used nail polish to paint bobbie pins and hair clips. It works out really well.

I've only ever used bobby pins, until recently.  They mysteriously all went to bobby pin heaven, or another dimension or something.  I love bobby pins because they're not pointy like a safety pin, they easily slide into the stitch, and pulling them out doesn't distort the yarn.

Recently I've had to use different colored yarns to mark my spots.  I don't like putting the yarn in because I take my hook out to pull it through and I'm scared of my work coming apart.  The upside to the yarn, is that I discovered a new color combo that I never would have tried otherwise...brown and lime green.  I was making a brown beanie, and used lime green to mark my spot and it looks good.  It's inspired a group of hats that I'm trying out with names based on ice cream.

Brown & Green - "mint chocolate"
Brown & Yellow - so far unnamed, but lemon and chocolate will be in there somehow.
thinking of white and red - "cherry on top"
etc, etc...

I use pins. Not safety pins, mind you, but regular pins. Needless to say, the first few rounds can be painful if I'm not careful.
