I saw these at Disney World this past week and instead of paying the $12.95 price tag  Tongue, I was wondering if I could make them myself since I'm a jewelry maker.

Has anybody else made these before and willing to tell me how to make them?

Thank you in advance!

I've never made them before BUT it looks like pieces of wood with 2 holes drilled in the side. Then it looks like they placed small pictures on the wood and then shellacked them. I would guess that they used a stretchy elastic type string to put them together ... very simple pattern of wood, bead, wood, bead etc then tie and wear.

I like the fact that you could imitate the christian pics or replace with family pics, pet pics, travel pics ... it is endless really!
What a great idea for a gift ... hmmmmmmmmm ... I think I am going to see if I can try to find those wood pieces!

your local mexican store should have them for like $2.
you should probably restring them, though.

PS: a nice varnish for jewellery if you make your own is diamond coat (or something like that) that you can get online or in craft stores.

you can pick these up at a flea market for a $1.  i've been wearing these for 5 years now and I always get mine at my local flea market. also make sure you get the ones with resin or some sort of top coating so it will last longer or the stickers will fall off.

What a great idea to buy one at the dollar store and personalize it.  That would make an awesome gift!

you could even make it reversible, if the shiny coating used is strong enough (and non-irritating enough) to be used next to the skin.  that way you could have saints on one side and something totally different on the other.  it would be easier to just have two, but there is something nice about secret pictures on the other side, that you could flip.
