I got the idea for most of these cupcakes from the June/July issue of Family Fun magazine.  We went to a friend's house on Memorial Day, so I brought these.

The pork chop on the grill.  The icing for all the cupcakes was buttercream colored black.  I added some cocoa powder to get it to look black instead of a deep purple.  After I iced the cupcake with buttercream, I added orange sugar sprinkles for embers.  Then I piped the grill on with a gray buttercream.  The pork chop was made from a Goetze's caramel cream shaped by hand.  The grill lines were added using black food coloring and a toothpick.

Kebabs on the grill.  The kebabs are made from lemon, lime, and cherry Dots cut diagonally and pieces of caramel creams pushed onto a toothpick.  The ones in the magazine were made using fruit slice candy.

Hot dogs on the grill.  The hot dogs were made from strawberry Mike & Ikes with grill lines drawn with black food coloring.  The magazine said to use Hot Tamales, but the store we went to didn't have any and we decided hot dogs were more pink than red anyway.

Hamburgers on the grill.  This one is not actually in the magazine.  I came up with the hamburgers myself.  The hamburgers are made from chopped Snickers formed by hand.  (This gets pretty messy, btw.)  Grill lines drawn with black food coloring.

All 24 grill cupcakes.

They used brownies instead of cupcakes and did not ice them.

Super clever and they look really good.  I bet your friends loved them.

I'm making a mental note to try these for the fourth of July!
