In Southern California, in the 1960's, people were making a interior home decoration.  It was a bird cage made with some type of colored string, I believe crochet string.  There was a square piece of wood that had "notches" in it.  The thread would go through the wood notches from top to bottom.  It is difficult to describe, but when completed it was about 2 feet high (my best recollection) and was a diamond shape, with the square piece of wood being in the center, the string coming down into a point.  That's all I can do right now on description.  These things were being made about the time the "resin grape clusters" were popular.
