You can stamp polyclay/ceramic with it.  Plus letterboxing...(google it - it's addictive!)

It is an uber relaxing hobby, isn't it?  Also very creative too!

Rubber stamping is very relaxing, I agree. I like to do it at night after my baby's gone to sleep and I can just unwind for a bit. It's nice  Smiley

I actually will try to find a cheap supplier of Speedy-Carve - but apparently, you can also carve plumbing gaskets.  (But they need to be mounted to stamp correctly!)

Have you found an effective way to carve plumber's gasket? I heard of this and bought some to try it, but the stuff's impervious to my gouging tools. I'm thinking that the best way would be to cut (with scissors) out my designs and mount them to something, so it would basically be like a more durable foam stamp. I was also thinking of using it to make a brayer, but if I can find a better way to carve it I might use it for stamping instead.

Dunno.  I'd probably grab a bunch from my local Home Depot to try it on.  Maybe warm it up like lino to carve?

Hmmmm....I've never used a brayer before....

I found the blog of someone who uses plumber's gasket for carving:
http://cynthia-stcharles.blogspot.com/2007/03/printing-blocks-plumbers-gasket.html
apparently you can just use linoleum cutters/gouges.
Does anyone know where you can buy it?

Google search "Stamp carving tutorials" You will come up with a bunch of sites that take you through the whole process and answer all of your questions =]
And A lot of people here are also willing to help out, but if you want visuals of the process and such, do the search!
I am ordering a small sheet of linoleum to try out with my order of rubber and gouges. I will also be picking up plumbers gasket =] and water resistant double sided carpet tape for mounting the stuff to blocks of wood.

My paypal transfer of cash from the bank is suppose to clear today sometime! =D im so excited to finally order my supplies, be able to do a little carving in the next 4-6 days, and then sign up here =]
Since it will be my first time doing hand carved stamps i will keep it easy on myself and only sign up to be in a group of 3. I only have to make 2 stamps that way and send out 2 packages.

The next time i go to home depot, I'd try to grab some plumber's gasket!  Very cheap and apparently, very nice.

I also need to pick up my number 1 gouge - I swear one of my blades is lopsided.
