Fiber Friday May 28, 2010
«
on:

Whee, I get to start this week!
This is my first batch of handspun that is actually long enough to consider knitting with!
100g of Corriedale, 98 metre single. I have named it Highlighter for obvious reasons! I cannot wait to start knitting with it.
What does everyone else have this week?

Halloooo!~
I call this "Cantaloupe"! It is 145 yards of fingering weight superwash merino, navajo plied.
I was originally spinning it for socks...but well, obviously I can't tell the difference between 2 oz and 4 oz. :\ now I have no idea what I'm going to make. I think I can squeeze some footies out of it!

Those are both Beautious!!!
Oddacity ... You spun that??? OMG .... it looks like something you would buy from a mill!!!
Not taking anything away from you, jrain. I love Corrie fiber to spin and knit with and that color is just vibrant and begging to be knit. It would look fabulous in my Danish shawl ... if I had extra $$$ I'd bjuy it from youi... as it is, I only have extra fiber or hand-spun
eta:
Last weekend was a Fiber Weekend!! No one home but me!!! Last Friday night I carded up 12 oz of "Ugly Ducking" batts (called Ugly Ducking because they always make beautiful yarns!)
Sorry, no pics!!
68 & 84 yards Turquoise heathered. About 8-11 wpi Beautiful!
160 yards, Blue heathered. About 8-11 wpi ... currently being knitted as part of a Danish Tie Shawl
Fiesta! 176 Chain Plyed, Orange heathered with turquoise, blue, green.
196 yard 2-ply Bulky, Deep purple to light purple,
Spring Rose! 282 & 186 yards, 2 ply, about 10 wpi. Might incorporate this into the Danish Tie Shawl.
368 yard 13 wpi hand spun, hand dyed. Made a large ball of this yarn then set into dye pot of blue. Outside is deep blue and inside is lighter blue. Will knit up real prettys.
156 yard single, 13 wpi.l Was Pink & white roving, spun and over dyed with purple. Nice varigation.

I spun up some lovely Jacob this week. I tell you that if you have never had the pleasure to spin jacob..do so. It was delightful. It blooms so well too. I spun it up lace weight looking as a single and when I plied it from a center-pull it just fluffed up. 185 yds 2 ply and only 2 oz. wow

Ok, i admit this is not all from this weeks spinning
Studies caught up with me and the photos never escaped the camera in time for the FF. So this is going to be a rather....padded? post.
Behold! The untitled monstrosity which emerged from my bag of scubby-bits. Was a great excuse to muck around and try out different things. Mother dearest has claimed this (and the rest of this lot) as hers. I have no idea what she'll be doing with it yet...
Next up is the result of the unplied rainbow singled from a while back.
and with a thicker/softer/poofier cream
This is the testing lot of blue. I ended up doing about 200g of this. The actual colour is a bit deeper and darker and the majority has gone into a hat for the bf.
aaand the first attempt at fibre-dying. It decided to try and felt a bit during the process which made life a bit more interesting. Both mum and i are happy with the colours though- even if they were a bit of an accident.
Loving the colour of Highlighter jrain! Very cheerful
Cantaloupe is just gorgeous oddacity, the colours make me think so much of autumn. Is the Navajo plying tricky to do?

Mullerslanefarm (you're a MLF, by the way!) I want to see! You're a tease.
Azzarath, I love that first plied rainbow. Love it!
I have spun some, but I don't know what I posted. I know I posted 2 in the mail this past week for the SMS giveaway, haha, but maybe I'll get some going again to post here soon.
I just got some raw fleece and I've been trying to wash it, YIKES! And now I need to find something to card with...

Aww thanks!
Navajo plying is a bit tricky, but once you get into the groove of it it's pretty easy. Actually the hardest part for me was keeping track of the single when I had to stop and start, especially because my wheel is acting up right now (gotta fix it sometime soon...)...the wheel won't turn the drive band all the time so sometimes I have to give the flyer a kickstart, and that is extra stuff for my hands to do! If your single is really twisty it's difficult if you don't have proper tension on it because it kinks back on itself. Otherwise though it's not so bad. I learned all my techniques from youtube videos.
I recommend just jumping in and trying it! (I did it with my second yarn ever, on a spindle, because I'm insane, but it worked out alright)
