I'm from Newfoundland too! However, I'm currently living in Calgary.

As far as craft fairs go, I think they happen more often than you think. In St. John's, it's best to check with the Newfoundland Craft Council.

http://www.craftcouncil.nf.ca/about/craftfairs.asp

Other than that, in rural areas you'll have to probably look a little harder.

Thanks
Im in Gander and believe me theyre hard to come by. Unless i become a member of every church going or pay $100 a day for a table in the mall, im pretty much out of luck.

Im moving to St Johns in the fall though and im extreamly excited at the amount of crafty resources there.. cant wait to get started!

I'm here too! Right now I'm home for the summer on the Burin Peninsula, but I'll be back in town for September. I haven't done any craft fairs or anything, but I know they have that Christmas at the Glacier thing every year... Worth looking into?

I live here too  Cheesy
Just a note, keep your eyes peeled for events at MUN. For example, the Women's Resource Centre puts off an International Women's Day Fair (March 8th) and invites female owned businesses, individuals and groups to come and set up for the day.
I sold stuff there last year.

There are also some people who sell crafts in the Avalon Mall on Sundays... it is sort of a hodge-podge of things going on (flea market, etc.) and I am not sure how much the tables cost but I'm sure you could find out if you called the mall.

Hi all! I've browsed the craftser website many times and when I saw that there was a topic posted about crafting in Newfoundland, I had to sign up.  Currently I am living in St. John's, but I am from the South Coast originally.  I love to craft, sewing is my favorite.  I sold some things at the International Women's Day Fair at MUN last winter as well, and I've also hosted a table at the Avalon Mall Flea Market a few times.  There is a flea market held at the Village Mall every Sunday, too.  I haven't visited it yet but plan to do so soon and hopefully host a table there as well.   Well I just wanted to say 'hi' and let you know that there is one more Newfie Craftster in existence.  Do any of you sell your items in the St. John's area?

Hi guys! I'm from Newfoundland, too. I'm living in St. john's now to go to school and I work in the Avalon mall. The flea markets on Sundays are ok but it seems like a lot of the same things are repeated.
I don't usually make many things-just some reconstructed clothes or purses. I juts go on this site for hours at a time, get a million ideas, and then never really finish everything. But I love this site though.....and I'm happy that I'm not the only newfie. Smiley

Also a few girls from my school are going to start up a stitch and bitch soon, probably at Hava Java on sunday nights.. not sure of all the details but I'll get her to post them!

yay andrea!

yeah, re: craft fair at the village... not very successful! We returned the next weekend due to the ballistics fire sale thinking that we would get more sales cause thats the audience we're targeting but it still wasnt very great. the location is crappy!!!!

i ended up putting some of my stuff at the Anna Templeton Centre Tea and Sale and making way more money then i ever could sitting at the village all day.
Apparantly the craft fair at the Avalon is really good except its hard to get a table. I got a call back cause i was on the waiting list but i did the village that day so i was unable to go that night!

Hey all. I too am fellow Newf. Live in St. John's, Memorial student...yadda yadda.  Good to see there are others on Crafster tho. A Stitch and Bitch group would be interesting, as Ive never knitted with anyone but myself before.

yay!  i'm a newfoundlander too!  i didn't realize there were so many other newfies who hung out at this forum!  now that i do know, i was thinking it would be cool if we had a newfoundlanders only craft swap (not neccessarily newfoundland "themed"  but with newfoundland members as the swappers) !  i would organize it myself but you have to already particpated in at least 2 swaps to do so.  i have been wanting to participate in a swap for so long now but i would like to start out close to home, where i know there is a much better chance of sending/receiving the packages safely.  i posted in the swap gallery looking for a canada only swap and ended up finding this post about newfies on craftster ... so if anyone is interested and fits the criteria for starting a swap .. i think it would be an excellent idea and i would be totally interested in participating! Hi everyone, I'm originally from Ontario, but moved to the Carbonear area just over a year ago. I do miss all the craft stores that I used to frequent. There is a small sewing store close by, but if I need any amount of items I have to drive for an hour  into St. John's. I would really like to find a place for learning quilting, without having to travel into the " city", gas is not cheap!! I also miss the big Sewing/Craft Show that comes to Toronto twice a year. Is there anything like that here?? Sometimes I get jealous of our friends in the U.S. they have great places for crafts and there stuff is cheaper to!!  One craft light I wanted to buy in the U.S is just over 200.00 here ( In Canada) it would cost me close to 500.00 with the S/H.

Hi to all.  Another fellow Newfoundlander here.  Actually Labradorian too, since I've been living here for 16 years.  I was wondering if anyone here knows where one could purchase spinning supplies in St. John's.  I will be visiting town the end of September and I think I need to start yet another form of crafting.

I'm interested in spinning yarn from roving, using a spindle of some sort.  I know I can purchase supplies online, but I would really like to actually handle some supplies first, just to see if I can spin.

Also just wondering if anyone had actually attempted the Stitch and Bitch groups or any "Newfoundlander" swaps. Just curious.

Thanks Marie, I asked for a sheep for Christmas, but...I'm pretty sure thats not gonna happen  Wink  My grandfather used to keep sheep years ago.  Man was I ever afraid of them!  They use to run wild.  Now I'd love to have one.

Wow, I've been on Craftster for about 4 months but this is the first time I noticed this section of the forum!  Newfoundlanders!  Hooray!
I live on the west coast in Corner brook and I go to Sir Wilfred Grenfell college.   I know this topic is old, but I still wanted to say "HI!!!"

Hi KrisCreates!  Welcome to craftster...or crackster.  You'll find it very addicting.  Yes, there are a few of us on here.  I'm in Goose Bay, and I know personally of 5 members of craftster here in town.  I'm sure there are more throughout the province.

Corner Brook is a great city (the west coast in general is wonderful).   I was there last month.
