Just made one - basically, take a cardboard box, punch holes in it, put down paper on the sides, and light through it.

It's a pretty good investment for taking photos, if you want to use a more professional looking photo!

Here's the source!

Here's a photo of mine:

The best part is that you can build it to your own size that you need!

Make sure to use natural light bulbs/halogen - otherwise your background turns out yellowish.

Any idea how to cut down reflections? I'm trying to photograph glass I've made and unless I take the picture from a really sharp angle, I can see my reflection in the glass.

Example:

Thanks so much for sharing!  I have been wondering how in the heck to get better photos of my work onto my Etsy.  I really appreciate this; it seems so easy to make!

You can get a circular polarizing filter for your camera (some of them are pretty cheap) and it will cut down the reflections on anything that is not metallic. Otherwise, yep, a tripod or putting your camera on another sturdy surface will help so you can get out of the background. In that case remember to also have a clean background behind the tripod so anything that reflects doesn't take away from the picture.

manually setting the white balance on your camera is how you take care of having an 'off' color, you can use any bulb.

astrangeone, your box is under lit, the purpose of cutting the sides open and using a fabric in place is to add light thru there as well. If you don't use that for light then you are better off using the matte side of a piece of posterboard in place of it, as that will reflect more light than you currently are.

Here is a pic of mine, I use 3 lights, all lights I happened to have around, none very powerful but I have light coming in from virtually the entire top as opposed to one single light. And posterboard on the sides for reflecting light, so my box is very well lit.

and the pics I get from it

Thanks!  I have a shitty lamp kind of thing, but I will invest in some better lighting.  It sucks to be a crafty college kid.  Cheesy
