Wanting to make phat/rave pants....help

i want to try my hand at making a pair of phat pants or well rave pants, you know the really wide legged big pocketed pants covered in that fluroecent pvc stuff


whats the best way to go about it ?

and where would i find the fluroecent stuff? couldnt find any on etsy

any help would be appreciated!

AWESOME! I made a pair of wide legs ages ago just by tracing a pair of JNCOs I owned. The way the waist and hips fit is important, so tracing a pair that fits you well and then doing a trial run of just shorts is a good idea (mine turned out a bit tight from bad measuring ). Then just guesstimate how wide ya want the legs. Dollar store wrapping paper, wax paper taped together as necessary and packing paper make for good pattern paper.

As for the fluorescent stuff, try a store that specializes in safety equipment. You know, where you can buy hard hats and orange vests and work boots. You can usually buy rolls of reflective tape in various colours to sew onto things like jackets and overalls to make you more visible while cycling or working outside. Or just try Googling "reflective tape," and see what pops up.

I was going to say pretty much what Alexus said, but to add: if you don't have a pair of pants that work for tracing, you can use a pattern for pants that you know will fit you and again just flare the legs as much as you need.

thank you so much for your advice, i was thinking of using like light synthetic fabric so there not to heavy or using twill so there heavyish but im not too shure just yet... im going to look at working out a pattern soon a seeing how it goes as for the reflective tape ill try some safety gear places

Years upon years ago, Simplicity had a pattern to make a pair. It's been long since discontinued but I'm frequently looking on Ebay for it. Just a thought!
