i recently aqcuired two gorgeous suede jackets. at least, the styles of them are amazingly gorgeous, but the colours are not. one of them is a dark green, which i can live with. the other is a purple with many very faded areas and other stained darker areas. i was wondering if anyone knows how i might go about dyeing this suede jacket to a black (seeing as how that's a classic colour and also the darkest possible colour) other than going to a professional and paying tons of money.

Go to the professional and pay lots of money.

Suede is difficult to dye, doesn't pick it up easily, water can affect it badly (some it will, some it won't), any stains or scuffs can prevent it dyeing.  Also trying to dye the finished and sewn piece of clothing is more difficult than fabric yardage - the thread used to sew it probably won't dye.   AND to top it all off, a good black is very difficult to get.

Not a lot of good news...
