Rockin' the baubles all around town...

Started up a 2nd round of the Sea Life Swap back in April, after I assigned partners for the swap I began working on a seahorse button wall art piece.  I fell TOTALLY in love with it, had to make a 2nd one for my partner Smiley  Seahorse is an applique cut out from a clip art downloaded from the internet, regular Heat n Bonded to a background.  Background is made up of main 'water' and 'sand' which is ironed on and satin stitched to the water piece.  These took FOREVER, as just a motley hodge-podge of button placement would NOT work with these, I wanted them to look a bit more uniform in their coloration like you would see in the ocean...all in all probably a good 8hr per piece in composition and actual creation.  Enjoy!

Some of the buttons are beautifully iridescent, many were lonely onlys in my stash, so this is a 100% one of a kind as far as materials and colors and the design layout of the buttons Smiley

Here is the 2nd piece I made to send to LimeRiot in the swap...totally didn't wanna give this one up either!!  I love the white in combination with the greens and blues.  Fish are iron-on patches I made from No Sew Heat n Bonding a border strip I cut off a fabric panel and cutting out the fish and ironing them on.

Button art has become my newest labor of love Smiley  I don't think there's any subject I can't embellish with buttons!  Comments and criticism welcome, as always.

I had forgotten how much I loved seahorses till now! When I was very little, my grandmother would take me to the pet store and I would stare at the seahorses the whole time. I am so jealous of your swap partner right now!

Thank you for all the great comments, everyone Smiley  I always enjoy hearing how my projects spark memories and inspiration in others, makes me feel all warm and fuzzy...and not just because I'm drinking delicious chocolate coffee right now Wink  I have now depleted my shiny button stash for blues and greens...hopefully I can get some back from swaps and various Etsy and eBay purchases for future projects.  My swap partner from this did send me some fab turquoise shell buttons, they're gorgeous!

Thanks so much!  This is probably my favorite piece ever as well Smiley  I loved the tree I did as a first project, then the heart and rainbow, but this one totally takes the cake for me.

kaz, I got a PM you put this project as one of your top 12 on craftster Grin  I'm so thrilled!!  I've never gotten that notification before, must be something new that we get to know if someone made something of ours a fave project.  YAY!
