I was lucky enough to be travelling around Morocco earlier this month, and of course had to drag a journal around with me Grin

I bought the journal from a fairtrade Oxfam shop and with a few alterations to the cover, 2 days spent watercolouring and sticking bits and pieces inside to start me off, it was ready for action!

I took the journal and a pencil case of essential supplies around everywhere I went so that I could write, scribble or stick when I had the opportunity. I also took a rook of photos so I left a few odd places for those to go, though I didn't want it to become a photo album, that's going to be separate. I'm sure I'll be adding to it lots more, but for now it's done. There are about 46 spreads in total, so I won't be putting them all here. There are many more and most of the photos on my flickr here Cheesy

The cover. I bought the tassel from a market stall in Marrakesh.

Postcards, leaflets, and big ol' stickers (we had to wear...)

Delicious mint tea

Busy market

The best trim from the amazing sewing stall

Best door ever! (I took a lot of photos of doors and windows Roll Eyes )

Fabric flower picked up on the street (as you do...) and the rose petals were arranged just like that on my bed

It's hard to convey just how wonderful the holiday actually was, but thanks for looking! Smiley

What a lovely journal!  Gah.  I adore it.  I agree with SAHMama - this does rock!  The colors are fabulous, too - totally reminiscent of the colors there!

Awesome job!

I don't want to wist the journal - I want to wist a brain as creative as yours Phizzy!!  This is amazing and I love every inch of it.  It will be such a treat to look back at this later, after the trip isn't so fresh in your mind, and revisit all those memories through your journal pages.  Love it!

Wow, thank you so much for your lovely comments!

It will be such a treat to look back at this later, after the trip isn't so fresh in your mind, and revisit all those memories through your journal pages.
I have quite a few from various travels (in a range of styles and abilities it has to be said Wink ) and they're so wonderful to look back on! It's amazing the things you forget over time, and the memories that can be triggered by looking at just at colours, or bits of paper, or scribbled notes.

The trouble is that once you start keeping travel journals they become addictive and photos alone just aren't the same any more Cheesy

Thank you so much!

I think the handmade paper in the book definitely made a huge difference. It was nice to work on something with a little texture and I love the flower/leafy inclusions that pop up randomly. Cheesy

Ooh Phizzy, can you give me some tips so I can keep one on my big New Orleans vaca later this summer? I kept a regular ole journal when I went to Europe 10 years ago...I wish I had kept it up better! When you're prepping it, do you pre-write any questions or anything? Or is it mostly decorating you're doing beforehand?

Sure! I painted all of the pages beforehand and glued some background papers on the pages, just to start it off, and that was about it.

These were a few of the pages before I went...

I can definitely recommend picking as much stuff up as you can wherever you go. Even if you don't know where you'll use it, everything can be useful! Cheesy I bought postcards to cut up and collected leaflets and whatnot, which were always cut and glued in somewhere at the next coffee break. Never go anywhere without at least scissors, a glue stick, and an ink pen! Cheesy

Nice job! This is a great way to save memories...
Only a language precision...it seems you have written a phrase in spanish and if it is so, when you say "la sala de las abuliciones" if you are meaning a place with water for cleaning themselves (usually with a religious purpose)...well, the word in spanish is "abluciones". Its a diffiicult word...I hope I havent bothered you, you made a great job. And forgive my english...

No you haven't bothered me at all...there's actually a few spelling mistakes in the book I need to correct, in Spanish and in English! Too much writing on the move without a siesta! Cheesy

Hi, this is a marvelous piece of art!

I am willing to build my own travel journal about a long trip I made through Europe and I was wondering if you could give us some details on how you made yours.

For example: did you paint each page with a different color or your book was already colored? With what did you do it?
Did you use special glue, special pieces of paper you bought there? what type of markers or pencils did you use?

Thanks a lot, I really like it and would like mine to be half that beautiful  Smiley

Hi, friends! Phizzychick, I am super willing to know how did you do to paint the pages with watercolours and prevent them from getting all crumpled and wet. Did you leave them to dry and then pressed them with something?

Thanks a lot!! I'm so excited to make my own about my trip to Europe that I come in here almost daily to remember how beautiful yours is!  Grin

When I painted the pages I left them outside in the sun to dry and they curled up a little, but when I painted the other sides they evened themselves out when they dried Smiley

This is amazing! I do a simple writing-style journal on my trips, but I wonder if I could squeeze in a proper arty travel journal. But hm... I'd never think to watercolour pages first.. haha. That really starts off the element of delight in it (which is continued with the rest of the goodies). Beautiful work.
