I'm curious what everyone else here is working on!

I have a Kenmore 158-17550, circa 1960- or 1970- something.

My parents got it at a yard sale almost 10 years ago for like $15. It came with all the little accessories and a bunch of cams for the decorative stitches up top.  I don't have the buttonholer though.

pshew. i wish i had one. well, i do, sort of. my mother got me a sew crafty mini for christmas. http://www.wilde-ideas.com/Vndrs/Pvo/SewCrafty.html but, uh, I haven't so much used it. i hand sew everything i do. yeah, it's annoying and takes a while sometimes, but i haven't really learned how to use a sewing machine. i might get one in july for my birthday. my boyfriend says they're not too hard to figure out. that's good.

1921 Singer treadled machine.
Weighs a ton. Now I can't move because I don't want to take it out of the apartment.

Only goes forwards and straight.

This is my baby. It's a Viking Rose sewing/embroidery machine.

I just paid it off this month.

Got it on Ebay from a gal who had a sewing shop and someone was trading up so it was used and she got me 1 year free financing.

Now I am the owner free and clear!!!

I got this 3 years ago as a christmas gift, and didn't think I'd ever use it. I tryed to take it back, and couldn't so I learned how to sew.

boingo82, I would say that it's probably a 1960 (or a year or two earlier) model.  I learned to sew on Mama's 1960 Kenmore sewing machine that looked very much like yours but hers was built into a cabinet.  The stitch length and selection dials were larger and the reverse button was in the center of one of the dials and had a capital R engraved on its face.  The hand wheel on the right side was also larger.

Thanks for posting the picture of your machine; it brings back nice memories.

This is my current machine, a Singer 4530.  I've had it since about 1992.  Nothing special but it gets the job done.

That's the same machine I have!!!  I love Viking, but it seems most people I talk to, have never heard of them.
