My goal is to make a white shaggy fur capelet with a hood. I prefer not to spend money on a pattern when it seems a simple enough project to do myself, though admittedly I'm not yet quite skilled enough to draft one without help.

Something tells me it's going to start out looking like a circle cape, but I am concerned about the shaggy fabric not draping well over my shoulders and just sticking out too far and looking silly.

What wisdom do you have for me?

If you join BurdaStyle, you can download this free capelet pattern!

To make it hooded, omit the collar and draft up a hood that will fit the neckline and about 12-14 inches tall. Don't forget to read up on sewing with fur and fake fur. One of the most important aspects is to trim the fur in your seam allowances to reduce bulk.
