my best friend got married and although it was very low-key and they weren't in it for the gifts i wanted to make something personal for them

i finally mastered the elusive french knot so i had to use it on this piece!

i used a vintage embroidered doily as a base - i choose this one as it had a trio of flowers which represent the bride and groom and their little girl  Smiley - then i freehand embroidered the names and date - the heart is outlined with chain stitch and filled with french knots - you can see in the first photo that the doily had a cotton lace trimmed edge, i was going to leave this showing but it looked a bit TOO kitsch for the happy couples tastes so i tucked it in and used my backing tutoial  [url]http://maximumrabbitdesigns.blogspot.com/2010/03/how-to-frame-your-embroidery-in-hoop.html[url] using black cotton velvet and a couple of red heart buttons to give it a nice tidy finish.
