Hey I have all these extra CD's. I keep seeing these wonderful records bowls, do you guys think that this could work with CD's as well or would it just become a gooey mess?

nope. It wouldn't work. CD's are made of hard plastic where was records are made of vinyl. If they are music CDs, try to sell them at a used place, or it they are perhaps AOL CD's you can recycle them

Now the wintertime is coming,
The windows are filled with frost.
I went to tell everybody,
But I could not get across.
Well, I wanna be your lover, baby,
I don't wanna be your boss.
Don't say I never warned you
When your train gets lost.

you could hack those suckers to pieces and arrange them like shattered glass on an already made bowl or tray.. it would look cool, kind of reflective shards.. maybe intentionally cut them into geometric shapes and glue like a mosaic? do cd's cut well?

Sadly no, they tend to shatter or little bits of shinyness flake everywhere.
