This is my most recent encaustic painting.  I started with beeswax as base and added greens, turquoise and peach.  Next I added a substantial amount of beeswax and ocre and then heated the wax until the colors underneath came through.  Lastly I added my fibers and started carving for texture.

It's quite beautiful and delicate.  I'm curious - does this kind of painting have to be kept at a cool temperature?

Not really, I think the wax is pretty much the same material that candles are formed from.  From what I know (and I'm really new to it) encaustic paintings will be fine in most conditions, even in galleries that use bright strong lighting.
