I made this jacket for my final project for fiber class. i learned a tonnn while making this, i had to use many techniques that i had never tried!

first, i went to a 'fiber farm'. i drooled the whole time i was there! but i shaved some sheep, then used these cool machines to make large pieces of wool that i could work with:

then, i learned to dye the wool. and then how to felt! (i wound up with a needle lodged in my finger nail, it's slowly coming out!) i probably felted for 50 hours or more, it took me ages. sorry for terrible photos, all i have atm is my phone to take pictures!

the front:

back:

whole thing:

and how the inside looked:

i'm veryyy proud of this jacket. it fits me perfectly!! it's the first time i've ever used a pattern (one that pseudo_pix made me  Cheesy) i altered it a lot but i like how it came out.

comments please Cheesy

(i didn't know if this should go in fiber arts or sewing! move if needed!)

Amazing. I love it. Wow. I want to go to a fiber farm. Did you drool on the sheep? (sorry, had to ask.) That's truly amazing. I'm so jealous.

well! they had a TON of babies and i was snuggling them (and probably drooling) and they hated me but they were so so cute!!!

That's amazing! Were these machines on the fiber farm?
yes! they were amazing. they also had this felting machine, which stabbed the wool a bunch as it pulled it through. i opted to be old school and felt it all by hand which i completely regretted!!! my arm was so sore, it took forever, and i stabbed myself a billon times (one of which went straight through the finger nail and out the other end, broke off half way and is still in my nail!)

and action shots: i'll work on them!  Cheesy

Wow, great jacket! I'm impressed that you needle felted the whole thing, that must have taken forever!

If you want to de-emphasize the seams, you can press the seam allowances open from the back, using a nice steamy iron. I actually press a lot of my felts with a big dry press and a squirt bottle, it really helps to get a nice finish or to add a bit of shaping Smiley

This is indeed beautiful. One comment that I have is that you may consider putting bias tape or a fabric border along the edges for a more complete look. I also agree with seam-pressing idea especially for the front seams. Overall, the curves of the seams, the style, and the colors are all drop-dead gorgeous! Cheesy

about finishing the jacket--

i debated it a lot (and the pattern actually had a collar and such to make it finished) but since the materials took so much time and are so raw to me, i wanted the jacket to reflect that.

it makes since in my head, but is hard to explain! hah does anyone else understand?

Wow, that is awesome! I love the colors, the cut, the details - and I can't believe you made it completely yourself! Congratulations, that is a piece to be proud of!
