I love the little denim dresses for girls at the moment, but the ones I like are $40.00, thats how much one would cost for me!  So I dug out the piece of denim I have been saving for something, was going to be a skirt for myself, but I probably never would have gotten around to sewing it anyway.  Here is the link to the one I liked at Pumpkin Patch http://images.pumpkinpatchkids.com/W10/IM/Flatshots/toddler_girls/138527_den_LGE.jpg
And here is the one I made.

Please don't look too closely to see if my decorative stitching is symmetrical, because it isn't.   Cheesy  But I had sewed it together before I realised... And the collar is a little dicky, and I'll do the front facing different next time, so there isn't a seam so obvious.  And the skirt should be a little fuller.  But these are the things you don't find out until the end.
I do love the way the sleeves came out, they are my favourite part, and the belt.

Thanks for looking and C &C welcomed

You guys are so kind  Grin
Ooh chucks, that would be cute.   Cheesy  The weather is starting to turn cold now (southern hemisphere) so it will probably be tights, boots and a skivvy underneath.  But next summer it will have to be worn as a shirt.  Although I will defo make another one for her, and I won't be afraid to buy real fabric for real money, not just at a sewing swap meet.  When I am winging it, I worry about ruining $10 or $20 of fabric but not so much  when it was $2.

I admit it: I totally looked to see if it was symmetrical. I had to, after you told me not to! And I totally couldn't tell.
Lovely job, and that child is amazingly cute!

ow. ow. ow.  my ovaries.. they ache.. they ache for a sweet little girl so i can make her gorgeous little things like that.  I have 2 little boys.  Smiley

I love the Pumpkin Patch but I agree with the previous that I love your version more.  It's more shift-dress looking.  Super cute.

I think your dress looks better than the one from the store. That's really beautifully done. You're daughter is adorable too.

Stop being so damned positive. Staring at the sun only blinds some one. By only looking at the positive, you miss an entire beautiful world of shadows and colors. Don't be overly negative, be realistic. The world is so much more complex and beautiful that way.

You did great! Hey I am totally anal about my stitching and from what I can see, you rocked it! I don't see any problems at all. Smiley

As to wasting fabric, don't forget about getting freebie or thrifted clothing super cheap and using it for making a new garment. A woman's denim dress or longish skirt, a pair of jeans from a very large man or two pairs of jeans of the same manufacturer is more than enough fabric to make an outfit (or two) for our little ones! Thanks, I am all about re-using fabric, and have previously made the little one a pair of jeans from the good parts of my worn out jeans.

I love the one you made more than the store-bought. It's adorable!!!!
