I like Weldbond... actually, that's almost gone too! I had one metal to metal piece fall apart on me, so I try to use something else for that!

Sweetyetevil - I'll definitely have to check out a flea market now. I haven't been to one in so long.
Suereal - Thanks for the tip on Weldbond.

I actually have a friend who volunteers at a thriftstore and I had her picking up broken watches for me...have yet to crack into one though. No clue what is inside. I guess that is my next step.

Hey guys, I just wanted to make it clear for anyone who is nervous about joining this swap...

This is a mixed media swap. You can use any materials for your charms, just make sure that they match a steampunk theme. You can use resin or cloth or just about anything. If you use cloth or paper you should use some method to protect it, since this is something that is going to be worn. But you can use anything. Any technique you would use to make any other charms can be used to make these.

And if you are nervous about gluing, you can also attach things with wire. These are artsy fartsy mixed media, and they can be as simple or complex, as many materials or as few materials as you want. Don't be stressed. Just have fun.

My brain hurt like a warehouse, it had no room to spare
I had to cram so many things to store everything in there
And all the fat-skinny people, and all the tall-short people
And all the nobody people, and all the somebody people
I never thought I'd need so many people

Good to know about the metal to metal failure.  I haven't been using it long enough to know some of the subtleties.  I don't actually follow the directions when I use it tho.  It says to coat both sides, dry a bit then attach.  I just glop a bunch on and fiddle with it till it sticks more heheh.  I do it on a glue mat so any over flow can be cut off after drying.

I just visited my Crafty Guru and she gave me a ton of old buttons: black and small with flower design. I'm thinking they will definitely have to be a part of the charm.
