Toothbrush bracelets

I hadn't made these since highschool (over 10 years ago), and I faintly remembered finding cute kids' character toothbrushes to do this with.  Now, though, all the character toothbrushes are very built-up, bulky, and the wrong kind of plastic for this project. Hence, no Elmo.  Cue crying.  Also, the kind of toothbrush I wanted was very hard to find, even in the dollar stores!  Help me out if you have a source, 'cause it's a cute, quick project.

Step one: Procure the right toothbrushes.  Yank out all bristles with nail clippers or tweezers.


Put brush into pot of boiling water.  Wait, wait, wait, wait.

Periodically, take it out with tongs/chopsticks/whathaveyou and, holding it in a potholder or dishtowel to protect your hands, gently bend it into the right shape.  It make take several boiling sessions to get it bent completely.  Careful not to break it, as I did.  I think it's the wrong plastic from when I did this before...



Wear it!  Flaunt it!

i love these!! my cousin and i tried making them way back in the day.. lol. but couldnt get past pulling the bristles out. haha. any who GREAT WORK!!

What a great camp idea for my daughter! She can make enough for all her campers in her cabin and co-cabin! Thanks for the idea! I think leaving the bristles on will make them cool to actually use while camping!

Oh My God i'd forgotten about toothbrush braceletes!!!!   i love these! i stopped making them when it got really hard to find toothbrushes made of that hard plastic... every brand is now that squishier plastic, even the cheepest ones

What a great idea!  I never saw these when I was young, guess I lived under a rock or something   I think it would be too funny to leave the bristles on them so they are functional and fashionable.  LOL!

I love these.  I tried them long ago but had a hard time bending the toothbrushes into an appealing shape so the bracelets looked a bit strange on my wrist, but still cute.  You could use the little covers that came with the toothbrushes to make matching earrings.

At the dollar store.  You may have to shop around.  The "Dollar Tree" didn't have the right kind.  You're looking for the translucent kind of hard plastic, not the rubbery ones that are so prevalent these days.

Thank you! I've been doing some seraching myself and the ones that are just right like that are hard to find. i'll check the dollar store next time.
