Out of all of my crochet projects so far, this is by far my favorite thing to make. Ponies!
Well, they started out as supposed-to-be-horses, but they look more like ponies, I think. xD

I made a pattern to go along with it. I hope it makes sense. I really couldn't figure out how to describe the ears.

Without further ado, the pattern!

Crochet Pony Plush
Pattern (c) Heather Diehl

Hook size used: H
Yarn: Medium/Worsted weight

Pattern takes two colors, a third if you don't want the hooves to match the mane and tail.

Sew beads on as eyes, use safety eyes [when making the head!] or embroider eyes on when finished with the rest of the animal.

Head:
Rnd 1: ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd ch from hk. Continue in a spiral, do not join rows.
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each sc around. (12 sc)
Rnd 3-15: sc in each sc around. (12 sc per rnd)
Tie off, leave tail for sewing to body. Stuff. Bend to create head and neck; sew into position.

Ears: Make 2.
ch 2, sc in 2nd ch from hk. Turn.
ch 2. sc in each ch on previous row. Turn.
ch 2. sc in each ch on previous row. Done. You should end up with a small triangle. Tie off, leave tail for sewing to head.
Sew to top of head.

Body:
Rnd 1: ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd ch from hk. Continue in a spiral, do not join rows.
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each sc around. (12 sc)
Rnd 3: Alternate 1 sc and 2 sc in each sc around. (18 sc)
Rnd 4-15: sc in each sc around. (18 sc per rnd)
Rnd 16: Alternate 1 dec and 1 sc in each sc around. (12 sc)
Stuff body.
Rnd 17: Dec each sc around. (6 sc)
Rnd 18: Gather 6 sc from previous rnd; pull tight, tie off.
Sew head onto body.

Legs: Make 4.
Hoof color:
Rnd 1: ch 2, 4 sc in 2nd ch from hk. Continue in a spiral, do not join rows.
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each sc around. (8 sc)
Rnd 3: sc in each sc around. (8 sc per rnd)
Tie off.
Main Color:
Tie onto any sc of hoof. sc for 10 or 11 rnds. Tie off, leave tail for sewing to body.
Sew legs to body.

Mane: For the length of the mane you want, double the length of the mane/tail color yarn. Cut one as a guide.
Cut 25 or so lengths; tie one at a time onto where the mane should be. Don't forget about the hair in the front of the head!
Purposely fray the ends: Separate the plies of the yarn.

Tail: Repeat with mane, making the tail strings longer and tying onto the rump. Separate plies.

These are great!  I can see them in a rainbow of colors, and I'm sure my daughter will want one in pink and one in purple!  Thanks for sharing your pattern.  They are way cute. :-)

Aww, thanks everyone! My first actually was a pink-and-purple pony, but it wasn't as pleasing to the eyes as these, number 2 [cream] and 3 [variegated with dark mane]. The mane and tail weren't split and the eyes were embroidered on.

So glad you like them! It's my first pattern--I hope it's all right. xD;

Hi, kyraji.  Can you please explain how to "sew into position" after making the head/neck bend?  Thanks---

For anyone having trouble with the head/neck sewing; it's basically.. bend the head down, use yarn of the same color, sew the bottom of the head to the neck so that it'll stay in that position.. I don't really know any other way to describe it. Like normal sewing I suppose, but it's way harder to see mistakes 8D
