I got a fur coat I want to re-purpose but I'm not sure about what I want to do
What would you do?

Also, after video-blogging for so long I feel I communicate best through video blog format, so I made a youtube video.

You'll see what I mean.

If the coat is in good condition I would say sell it... mainly because that's a pretty cool coat and I could see someone wearing it as it is. Sorry I don't have much suggestions besides that, but I enjoyed your video haha.

I'd buy it from you this instant if shipping it wasn't so horrendously expensive! Especially since you said "communist Russia" because their fur products were and still are AMAZING! (Dad gifted a wicked vintage Russian hat to the guy who was his best man at his wedding, and it is exquisitely made!). Seriously, with the versatility of a removable vest lining, that is one wicked coat! I'd run around in just the vest alllllll the time Tongue Is it me, or does that actually FIT you?!?! If it does, KEEP IT!

If you try to sell it 3 times and no takers (even after price reductions), you could make a hat and muff set seeing as there's a lot of fur. I'm having a bit of a brain block for furry ideas Tongue I'm just so stuck on the awesomeness that it already is!

Oooh, with that collar part, you should make a faux vest!!! So use the fur part as the frontage, then get thick black straps and sort of.... do a loose criss cross to form the back/ shoulders etc..... would look really cool over a white singlet and jeans.

With the straps, criss cross them over each other sort of tight so if forms it's own... weave... kind of pattern??? I'm hoping this makes sense..... here is a TERRIBLE picture

So anyway... keep over lapping the THICK black straps (my pic shows them thin cos i suck at paint) so that it forms an almost solid back. Then pin and  cut out arm holes, and sew the loose straps together so that they still stay in place.

Uhm... you could also maybe use a heavy lace for the backing?? I like the strapping idea better for the whole Urban Jungle feel....

As for the balance of it; idunno... Tongue

Yeah.  Sending stuff out of Australia is a bit of a bother.  Everything is so far away postage is always a problem.

And though it seems to fit me, it meets in the middle where it is supposed to overlap a little.

And the more I think that selling it is the logical option, the more it just breaks my heart.
I don't want tooooo.

hmmm... must be.

The more I think about it the more I realize that EVERYTHING would be better if it were made out of fur.

Any chance you know of a way to do the foe-vest thing so it fits me?  I can't drape it because I don't have a dress form.  Maybe, like, lay it out over a pattern that does fit me and do it that shape?
If that makes sense.
That'd work, yeah?

I should be able to try that theory and do a mock sometime in the next week.
But should and will are two very different things.  My list of projects I want to get done is already quite long.

xoxo
Charlie.

A common thing I've seen is using fur to make teddy bears. They tend to be very sought after for many teddy makers who want to use fur but don't want to add to more animal deaths. I'm not opposed to fur this is just a popular thought.
Try posting it in your local paper or websites for selling things for that if you decide to get rid of any scraps once you're done with your re-coning. Smiley
Mittens or a muff, or such would probably work.  hope you come up with something awesome!

Hmmm yeah, i don't have a dress form either, so i usually just "wing it". I guess laying it over, or taking measurements from, another items of clothing would be the best way to do it???

As i'm only thinking of it as strapping, you could cut those to any size really, attach all of the strapping you need onto ONE SIDE of the faux collar vest side, put it on and then bring the other ends of the strapping to the other side, and pin them in place; so you know if you need to cut off excess, hide shorter ends, weave some on a diagonal to create a better back pattern or whatever.

if using lace, or any other kind of material for the back, then yeah, i'd just lay it down and compare it to something else. Smiley

POST YOUR MOCK UP!!!!
