I started by drawing a picture of the dragon from the angle I wanted it. Then my husband scanned it at his office, and blew it up and printed it out to the size I wanted. Which was HUGE!! I then laid it out on my table and laid wax paper over it and formed all the body part separate using my drawing as a guide for scale.

I used 6" rounds for the heads. Each are 2 layers. I froze them and then carved them. The eyeballs are MMF painted then I laid the skin over the eyes and made cuts in the skin so the eyes showed under. The heads are gluten and casein free (wheat, oats, barley, rye, and dairy free)

The necks, legs, and tail are rice krispy treats that I formed. As in I had crisco'd hands and hot RKT and just compacted and added and compacted and added and shaped as I went.

The body is actually 8, 10" square cakes. I froze then stacked them 3 high with 2.5 cakes per layer stacked offset like bricks. Then I started carving the cake.

The wings are gumpaste that I shaped and let dry over curved flexible cutting boards.

Once I had all my pieces I laid them all down and then rolled out one HUUUGE piece of MMF and covered the entire cake with one piece of fondant (minus the heads), and then used the remaining fondant to make nails and spikes.

It was a multi-day, multi-step process. My son is already plotting his next birthday.

This cake is amazing... I am in ore of your skill.

I've just learnt to use rolled fondant, to cover my son's first birthday cake. Hopefully by the time his old enough to ask for something this awesome I'll be able to pull it off...

Loved the film and I love the cake even more! Love the wings too, not the easiest part of the cake I imagine, but it looks (and I bet it tasted) fantastic! Great job xxx
