I too eat this pile of flesh, and had to try it right away.  I just tied a circle of the same cotton thread and that worked fine (I used the bottom of a glass to tie it around and then slipped it off).  Of course I don't have a picture right now, but will post when I get one.  Thanks for the pile of flesh!

i eat this, I owe someone an afghan or something similar to it, so I'm going to try to make a large version of it that's not so stiff, I probably won't need the rings. I'll post when(if) I've completed!

I used a thick beading wire to make the loops, I am just having trouble weaving in the stripe-I can't make it look right to me. I will keep trying though!

Rather than guessing how much to chain for the band you weave through, try using foundation double crochet. I find my FDC tends to want to curl into a circle if I'm not careful, which would actually help in this case!
