My girlfriend at work's first baby is due tomorrow.  I finished this today!  Now she is allowed to go into labour.  I asked her months ago what her colour theme for the nursery was and she said just lots of bright primary colours.  I made her this:

I used this tutorial to make the centre panel. But then I had the problem that I had made it into a square and I needed a rectangle.  I added the two strips of black.  When I was quilting it I wasn't sure what to do.  I ended up using the pinwheel shapes and quilting them onto the black in variegated metallic multicoloured thread.  I am not sure I am a fan.
The quilt is self-bound (where you use the backing fabric and mitre the corners, I think that is what you call it?)

I am quite happy with it and hope she will be too.

I love all the colors, and the pinwheels are so freakin cool!

lol- I love how you said now she's allowed to go into labor! I agree, so many people I know just go into labor without letting me finish!

That centre panel is gorgeous and I love the colours you chose.  The black panels really make the colours *pop* right out at you!

Its so beautiful. It gives me lots of ideas for when I become brave enough to attempt a quilt. I'm sure your friend and her baby will adore it.
