The other day I worked on a new favorite project, dishwasher soap aprons. I got the free pattern here http://sewing.about.com/od/aprons/ss/soapapron.htm. I love it because it only takes about an hour to make one, it uses those pesky scraps, they are so g-darn cute, and it gives me a chance to work on not one but two new skills: bias tape and reverse appliqu. I love the way bias tape looks on projects, but after several failed attempts I realize that this is a skill that looks easier than it is.

I made the red one first and immediately started thinking of all the variation possibilities. I really wished I had strips of lace but it seems like a frivolous use of money and carbon to go to the fabric store to buy lace to embellish dishwasher detergent aprons. So I decided on reverse appliqu. All I have to say is I am still learning these skills  Tongue.

And then I finished only to realize my stupid dish soap bottle isnt the cool hourglass shape. So I had to find other uses Wink I think these will make great Mothers Day gifts.

Sock Monkey gets an apron (my apologies for the unfortunate tail placement. Unintentional I assure you)
