Oh wow!  For some reason I thought the sculpted faces would all look kinda old!  I can see how you can create cheekbones, chins, etc. now--it turned out great!

Love the hair and the buttons, too!

That's me, I think! I gravitate to the applehead/old folks features, but these faces take their own directions. Smiley
Maybe I'll try a baby face, or an alien face, just to stretch me a bit.  Grin

ahhhh thanx ladies!  I really liked making that face, there's so much you can do with it. I did her nose twice though. Once I got the eyes in I molded the nose a bit more.  I was able to use a needle and move fluff around to make it look the way I wanted. I'd like to get the head a bit smaller.

Next I'm going to try the clay with fabric over it.

AlternaWidget- I found out that you can use fabric medium over the clay to fix the fabric on the mold. I'm really excited to try that.

Over the weekend, I baked my little clay faces...let's just change that to BURNT my little clay faces!!  I have such a problem focusing that I forgot about them in the oven until I smelled them!

All is not lost, however, because the browned faces kind of look like I aged them!!  I won't be able to use them for dotees, but I can use them to make my altered Christmas ornaments, which sort of look like dottees, but I make them out of paper...oh well...

I will try again maybe over Memorial Weekend...I really want to make a certain dotee that I have in my head but I need a clay face! Cheesy

I have never made a dotee before, though I've always drooled over the swap galleries! Is a dotee just a hanging art doll? Or is there a different definition?

Pixieval--if you go to the swap discussion thread, smmarrt always gives a link to the origin of the dotee...I think in the swap we have strayed a bit from the original "dotee"...it is suppose to be 4-6 inches, with a face and a tail, generally no arms and legs...embellished however you like...

But, as you can see from all the galleries, some dotees have sprouted arms and legs, some have no tails, and some have no "faces"...

I prefer the original dotee style myself because I consider other small "dolls" art dolls and not dotees...

If you have never made a dotee, you should and post it here!  I am making a day of the dead set for a friend and this would be the place for me to post!

I won't be able to do anything, however, until after Christmas... Cheesy
