I made this dress for my two-year-old daughter out of a t-shirt that I got on clearance after Halloween:

I loved the shirt but the sleeves felt too tight for me.  I decided to cut the shirt into the shape of a basic A-line dress. I cut up the sides and curved my scissors in at the top to form armholes.

I sewed up the sides, and cut off the bottom to adjust the length for my daughter.  I used part of the bottom to make a ruffle that I attached to the bottom.

Then I used the sleeves I cut off to make strips to use for ties and attached those to the shoulders.  My daughter loves her fun new little dress!

I got the short sleeved version of that shirt for my niece and it was too small for her. Now I'm thinking I see a dress in my 14 month old's near future. Great idea!
