"The Luggage" from Discworld

I'm a geek. My family, all geeks. We adored the Sci-fi series from Terry Pratchett Diskworld. And in Discworld, there is this amazing magic luggage that follows it's owner around (no matter what) and eats people that try and mess with it. The "character" of the luggage is written so perfectly that we found ourselves loving the luggage (even though it liked to eat people). Since the chances of me getting my hands on actual enchanted luggage, I felt the need to make it.



This was pretty easy.

I started out with a small unfinished box from Michaels ($1.29) and stained it with a nice walnut stain.  Then aged it a bit using a bit of the stain with black paint in it, as well as sanding the edges to make it look well worn.

I made several little Sculpey feet (The luggage had 100's of feet... but that was a bit too much for me. Mine has like 25 or something) and stuck the feet to a sheet of Sculpey. The whole thing was baked.

I glued the feet to the chest and "POOF" The Luggage.

I finally got to see the movie based off the color of magic about a month ago and this is pretty awesome!

I started making a Luggage once, entirely out of Sculpey.  It didn't work out too well. =l= I do have a bunch of leftover feet again.

Later I had the idea to trying a version from... I forget which book... where the luggage winds up in high heels.  Thankfully, sanity reasserted itself before I got started. =l=

Thanks for the praise! I wasn't sure how many people would recognize it! The inside of the box is empty. I keep trying to figure out a clever way to put a spinny piece inside, one side with gold, one side with laundry... but have yet to get a brainstorm on that one.

Eleka: I just bought the movie when I found out they made one. I was very pleasantly surprised! I had been worried they would mess it up! heh.

rrat:  I think you should definitely do a version of Luggage wearing heals! I know I'd love to see it!

We should have a Discworld swap.. now that would be fun!
