That was my thought. Quite literally. A whopping 10 days before prom, I decide to make my prom gown.

...one of my own designs, all corset and draping...

...from scratch...

..without a pattern...

...with no prior corset making experience...

...never having drafted a pattern before, and only making something USING a pattern ONCE...

....yeeeeaaaaahhhh, I'm a smart one. >_<

So a week later, many pin stabs, a roll of duct tape, 3 yards of white matte jersey, and 1/2 a yard of black canvas later, this was born:

Close up of top:

The skirt is actually convertible, it sweeps up into a super cute asymmetrical draped skirt so as not to be in the way while dancing  Wink My date/ best friend was of course adorable as usual <3 Originally, the dress had white draping at the top for the arms, but he liked it better without it, and being the quintessential gay best friend that he is, said that it made my figure more prominent -rolls eyes-. He's so silly. Also asked me to wear my flat lace up sandals instead of heels, so that he could be taller, haha. But it was his prom, so I humored him- hence the reason my dress is too long, since I hemmed it for my 3 inch heels  Cheesy  I will be adding back the sleeves as I intend to wear it for my graduation...

More photographs coming soon!!!

Beaucoup d'amour!

thanks, I am!! I was so worried the whole time because I completely made it up as I went along since I couldn't find any tutorials for a non-laceup corset with cups. I called my friend up and explained what I was doing and how I was going to attempt to execute it and she just laughed and said 'theoretically, it SHOULD work...', haha.

When I finished it, I think i sat there for about 10 minutes just smiling like the mad hatter and repeating 'it worked...i can't believe it worked!'  Cheesy

Wow, great prom dress.  It looks like it fits very well - I would never have guessed about the circumstances under which it was constructed.  Tongue
