My dearest daughter is in 4-H, and just finished performing in the yearly fashion revue! With my help, she created this ruffle skirt using no pattern. We saw one kind of like it on the internet & I remembered having one as a girl, so she picked out fabric and winged it! The skirt part was made the traditional way with elastic waist. We then made ruffles using rope elastic and sewed them right on top of the skirt part. This was the most difficult part, the part that she needed help with.

Here she is modeling her new skirt! Please excuse the over-the-top pose, she is a definate drama queen! (And also the background decorations, the theme was "dream career" and hers is a dance instructor)

She was judged & participated in the fashion show wearing it, and now she has a pretty new rainbow ribbon to show for it!  What do you think?

Great job! Good choice of fabrics too. I bet she's the only one in her school that can sew her own clothes!! Keep up the great work! Maybe a dance instructor - AND a fashion designer?!

Yay 4-H and yay for her!!! I was in 4-H for years and years, and that is how I learned most of my sewing skills.  Was the project "Ready Let's Sew" by any chance?  Anyway, she did a great job!

I'm not sure about the project name. The kids created their projects in the sewing class that met each month. Her category for the project was "Fun with clothes" since she's still a Primary. They also had kids in "clothing capers", "clothes that click" and "Creative consumer fashion" (that is the one where they purchase their own clothes on a budget instead of sewing. DD did that last year & it was a lot of fun!

We absolutely love 4H. There is so much more to it than just sewing and animals, she's learning photography, cooking, food preservation, art skills, theatre arts, woodworking, gardening etc.... It's amazing! Last year she even performed a solo dance number (at the age of 7) for the 4H talent show, and a skit and a puppet show. It really brings kids out of their shell, thats one thing for sure!
