I found a Vintage 50s pattern for a cute summer dress and whipped one up out of brushed cotton in a safari-esque pattern.  I'm pretty proud of how it turned out, it was my first time with a few of the techniques (including making and inserting my own piping, which was a pain).  I ended up pretty majorly altering the front, from two darts on each side to a side bust dart plus princess seams up the front (this was a result of not making a muslin, something I will definitely do next time!).  I ended up taking the hem up a good bit as well--it was definitely a tea-length for someone much taller than me, so I took it up to make it hit just above the knee for me (one of my favorite skirt lengths).  I know the zipper isn't as smooth as it could be--I'm still trying to find a zipper insertion method that works for me.  Smiley  Let me know what you think!  Smiley

PS-sorry for the pink slippers!  lol

Looks good, but for the appropriate 50s silhouette you should probably be wearing a very poofy petticoat.    Smiley

Very cute! I just took my first sewing class today and made two really crooked potholders, so the fact that you can make a whole dress is pretty much amazing to me Smiley

I sew, paint unfinished wood, sketch, make jewelry, crochet a bit, loom knit, and sew. Pretty much if I can get my hands on it to learn, then I will know it. Maybe not perfectly, but enough for a hobby.

Great dress!  The princess seaming really flatters the silhouette - that was very smart of you!

Okay so once again I am completely redoing my pictures. Got tired of photobucket, the only reason I used it was for here so I decided I will just use Craftster's photo uploader. So while I am switching over my photo links will be broken. Message me if there is a post you would like the pics for.
