Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

• causes more functional impairment than diabetes, heart failure or kidney disease.
• creates a level of disability comparable to Multiple Sclerosis, chemotherapy or the final stages of AIDS.
• strikes men, women and children: an estimated 17 to 20 million people worldwide.
• receives inadequate funding for research, treatment and education.
• is the subject of widespread misunderstanding.

But a new public art project to raise awareness for ME/CFS, similar to what the AIDs Quilt did for AIDs, has begun. The idea is to create a banner of socks, each one personalized for someone who suffers from the disease. Send in a sock to represent yourself if you have ME/CFS, or send one to represent someone you care about who has the disease. The socks will be gathered into a long garland with others. Together they’ll be displayed at conferences, events, marches and parades to make ME/CFS more visible.

If you don't know anyone with ME/CFS and you don't have the disease yourself, you can still help.
