bag for guys??

a friend of mine was complaining about how he wishes it was socially acceptable for a guy to carry a purse, because there are things he wishes he had the capacity to carry with him, like a camera, phone, and waterbottle. the only problem is, how do you make the bag "manly" enough to avoid odd glances or feeling personally awkward? i'd just like to know if anybody has patterns, tutorials or any other links for a man bag. if i could find one, i'd totally make it, and maybe it could become the social norm! thanks

What about a messenger bag? One with a strap long enough so that he could wear it w/ the strap across his chest. My bf has one and carries it EVERYWHERE.

I like the euro carry-all.  I carry a "satchel" as one of my friends calls it.  It's basically a small messenger bag, that's more tall and skinny than short and wide.  I like mine because it's big enough for a 5x8 notebook, a small camera, and a bottle of water (but not a liter-sized bottle with everything else).

To make it manly, use a dark color and a sturdy fabric.  Canvas or corduroy would be good.  A big plastic buckle (like: http://www.campmor.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?memberId=12500226&productId=9268 or http://www.campmor.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?memberId=12500226&productId=9260) would be good on a webbing strap.  Check your local sporting goods store for webbing.  It should be about 30 cents per foot, or so.

The airline bags are all the rage. I'll take out my camera one day and take picture of guys in the city here. All wear woven bags similar to this one: http://www.origencrafts.com.ar/llamapurse.htm but in different styles and colors.

In leather or dark colors, and as long as they are sequin and embroidery free, bags can be manly! depends on the attitude
