So I'd really like to be able to turn my drawings into embroidery but I don't know how to do that. I know I need to buy a PED card, but is that all I need? Is it going to be super expensive for me to accomplish this? I keep getting different answers about what the PED card is used for. Any help/advice you guys can give me work be great.

I haven't visited machine embroidery section in forever and just saw this i hooe it's not too late-

In addition to the card you also need a ped reader- It is an attachment for the computer to allow you to download the designs to the card- you will also need a digitizing software-

I have been playing around with sophie sew- it is a free program, you will need to learn the program- but the site has some excellent video tutorials that you can download to your computer that are extremely helpful- it is a bit unstable as it is still in the developing stages- but for at the price I can't complain- there are several other programs out there starting at around $150 an go up

you can get Sophie sew here:     http://www.sophiesew.com/

there are a couple of threads in this board about sophie sew- you should check them for more information

Bernina's software starts around $1k,
Babylock's Masterworks is $2.5k,
Floriani is $2k.

Embroidery software can be expensive.

I have a scanner that works with my SE350, you draw whatever you want, and scan it, adjust some if needed and then save it to the card.  then you stick the card in the machine and it embroiders your design.
