Inspired by Davinia! I saw her gorgeous and completely awesome dragon blankets here: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=332991.0

And I immediately thought of my brother-in-law, who will be having a little girl very shortly. He's loves playing dnd, and he's even got his own bathroom decorated solely in dragon decor. I knew at once that his little girl needed her own dragon blankie. So here it is:

I wanted a whole bunch of different textures for "baby secret" (they're not telling her name ahead of time) to feel and play with, so I used a shiny, silky, stretchy material for the dragon, flannel for the underside of the wings, spikes, and background:

And then I used this awesome bubbly minkie-type fabric for the back:

Thank you again, Davinia, so much, for the inspiration!!!! The baby shower was yesterday, and the blanket definitely got the reaction I was looking for (Mom-to-be was super impressed, and I think Dad-to-be even squealed a little when he realized it was a dragon--he said "I hope she carries it around for years").

And gratuitous cat-helping-with-the-photo-shoot shot:

So awesome.   Grin   I like the fabrics, esp. the bumppy stuff on the backside of the blanket!

Heheh - just looked at that last photo again.  Kitty looks proud of herself for taking down the dangerous dragon.
