dh and i are going to a local anime con today. it's the first time ever that we go to something like that.
and the only manga/anime i am currently obsessed with is DeathNote. wasn't really feeling like cosplaying, but i had to wear something fun.
so i made this from a nice pink t-shirt that i got in the mystery shirt clearance from
MAKE magazine's store.
it was from makerfaire and had a cute robot on it (just like the top left corner of
this image, which is actually from
a great tutorial about making a scarf from t-shirts)
but it's really not my favorite look for a robot so i made an L fangirl shirt out of it. i used a print-out from the anime (same image as in
this page of the manga) to help me cut out the t-shirt fabric appliqués. i use the iron-on sticky film (i'm blanking on the name of it right now) and then sew over it after ironing.
later i sewed down the offwhite layer, and added his eyes again in white. i sewed down the black but you can't really see it (plus, amazingly, i think i am starting to be able to control my sewing machine a bit better).

requisite dorky action shot:

i also have another shirt that has a velvet E on it in a similar font to
the famous L (an E can be cut to look like an L) and i might appliqué that on the back, or something, later. it happens to have the same pink background!
the quote is on velcro because i would like to be able to make him say different things. the character tends to say some memorable stuff, that is fun to parody.
