All excellent ideas!  I'll have to try sachet making, and the bouquets for neighbors is so nice!  I'd love to come home to find flowers waiting for me.

I love your idea of cleaning up the town sign.  It'll bring about community pride in more ways that you know, I think.  Good job, Always!

My hubby thinks our taxes should pay for the clean up, but you know, sometimes you have to forget politics, blaming people, etc. and just get off your ass and do it yourself! Cheesy

BTW--My family lived in Kansas at a military base while my dad was deployed to Viet Nam...I remember so many people who went out of their way to help my mom in so many ways...the kindness of strangers never ceases to bring tears to my eyes...

You are so rigth, both of you. I think we to often forget that the common areas - like the flower bed around the town sign - belongs to all of us. That the community is us. Sorry, I don't explain it very well.

boo hiss--I called up the township and they mentioned something about liability laws!  Since they have not paid attention to this sign for years, what are they going to do, arrest me?

I might have to go with beg for forgiveness instead of ask for permission...I am leaving now to go check out the sign and what has to be done...even if it is covered in snow, I can see the stupid bushes...

There are a growing number of "guerrilla gardeners" who are cleaning up and beautifying otherwise neglected areas (there are even websites dedicated to tips on how to do it cheaply and effectively). I think it is a fabulous idea and look forward to hearing how it goes for you!

I love the guerrilla garden idea. And seriously, there are real crimes happening. I can't imagine them getting you in trouble for fixing up a sign. Sometimes its easier to ask forgiveness than permission Tongue

You know what bugs me?  That people actually get in trouble for planting a few flowers.  I mean, if they planted some vines or something, sure that could be a problem, especially if it's under a sign.  But a few pansies and marigolds, maybe some perennials that don't get to big?  Being arrested or tried would be a waste of time and tax payer money.  So really, I'd be asking for forgiveness too... forget permission.   I wonder if that sign welcoming people to my town get's love too?  I've never really noticed as generally I don't leave often enough to enter and see! LOL

Our township is small enough that I doubt anybody would cause trouble at all...I only want to trim the bushes, plant some annual flowers and maybe paint the sign...the township does mow the weeds around the sign

I think I am also going to drive around and see if some of my elderly neighbors could use a splash of color...I know each year I plant flowers for my mom (82 years young!)and her neighbor and they love it...just a little something, you know!  It doesn't take a lot these days to add a little bit of brightness---there is so much bad news to counteract!
