on the Enquirer's website I've found 2 things - 1) an old list of craft shows http://www.cincinnati.com/freetime/stories/100702_craftfairs2002.html 2) and a list in the classified section of craft shows looking for crafters http://frontier.cincinnati.com/classifieds/other.asp?type=9&class=612&items=10&kw=

any thoughts/recommendations?  I was going to call some of the people in the classified section but I wasn't sure what to ask them.

Well, I know of a great craft fair that I'm not exactly sure if it still is running, but it is in Logan Ohio. Is was called the Lilly fest, filled with flowers, pottery and arts and crafts. I just wish we'd have that in Cincinnati.  Undecided

I think the key to a good indie craft fair in Cincinnati would be to find a spot to host it in Northside, and do a call for artists in OTR, downtown, Clifton, Northside, and then strategic adverts in other hot spots in the city.  When I lived in Cinci, I really wanted to put something like this together, but didn't really have time to work on it either.

I've searched the board and not found one mention (other than the Caffine show) about craft shows in Cincy.  Am I missing something or are there no good craft shows here? Huh

Are there any consignment stores that do crafts?

Thank you!!

Artworks is running a holiday craft/art bazaar this december. I think it runs from the 6th to the 20th. I think it is pretty small though.

Did you want to participate? Or just visit?

the HOLIDAY CRAFT HULLABALLOO  is
this weekend (Friday 6-10pm and Saturday 11-8pm) at The Leapin Lizard
Gallery in Covington (turn right onto Mainstrasse and it is three
blocks down on the left; a beautiful old church converted into an art
gallery on the corner).   The craft market will be on the 2nd floor
with live music, holiday baked goodies, a huge selection of awesome
artisans displaying their jewelry, ceramics, bags, gifts, cards,
woodworking, accessories and even some adult beverages.

Okay, I just got here (yeah, late as usual... Huh ) and I think we need to put out another call for crafters, and see if we can get something off the ground.

I know there are churches that might let us have shows there for a donation, recreation centers are a possibility (Anderson has a nice one), and if you insist on being on the northside, I'm sure we can work something out.

I'm really irritated at the dearth of crafty stuff for adults (who work, and have other things to do during the daytime hours).

I'm not the best at my crafts, but I tat (needle and shuttle), crochet and am working on custom dolls - or at least heading that way.  I teach better than I work - was once a Lee Ward's craft consultant (yes, my age is showing...)

So - a new year, shall we at least get together and chat?

I could say there are a few things wrong with Cinci, one of them being a lack of any major craft community. There is a definite emphasis on fitting in, which I think dampens the crafts community. I know that it definitely dampens the fashion world here. I can't say I've seen one small clothing boutique. But if you would be interested in putting something together I would join in. I craft myself, and also would even just help organize if needed.  email me! briliantlyfreakish@hotmail.com

Cincinnati is extremely conservative, but we do have some amazing boutiques that are holding out. Ludlow Ave in the Clifton gaslight district has some great ones, and in some cases they have local artists work. Also Newport and Covington (KY) proper, have the random gallery/shop that are worth wild.

But regardless, a craft community is pretty much non-existent.

I'd love to start/be a part of a craft night/group.

Cafes and restaurants are typically ok with groups using space as long as people buy drinks, etc. That way there are no fees for space etc.

KNIT ON in Newport Ky has knitting classes and I think they do a knit night now and again.

I'm totally late to this party, but I just wanted to make sure everyone knows about Crafty Supermarket! Me and my friend Alisha started this show last fall because there was a dearth of craft activity in Cincinnati, and it totally brought all the crafters out of the woodwork!

We had about 70 applications for 15 spots at the first show, which was at the Northside Tavern. We had 1,000 shoppers show up in one day--it was mind-blowing! And the people of Cincy were spending money, too. Our next show is in one week, this time at the Clifton Cultural Arts Center with 50 crafters! (Exact date: Saturday, April 17, 2010 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.) http://craftysupermarket.com

And we've got a great craft resource now in Fabricate, a cute craft boutique in Northside. http://fabnorthside.com
