a skirt for my daughter's friend

Last week-end, my daughter was invited at her friend's birthday party. I recently started sewing again, so I decided to sew a skirt for the friend.

But, how to decorate it with ? You know, for that little special touch that will make it really special ? ;-)

I didn't have much time left (ahem, I'm your typical last-minute person) and whipped up a nice crocheted triangle from a japanese book, with some pretty contrasting cotton. I figured it would make an unusual pocket to her skirt :-)

I sewed in on with the sewing machine, but I didn't like the result that much. Next time, I'll probably sew it by hand, at least so it doesn't distort the shape and cuts the yarn in places when the sewing machine gets caught in the stiches. :-P

i imagine two small crocheted hearts as pockets on a cute skirt or dress.

i like how the triangle matches the dots on the ?bias tape?

thanks, and actually the bottom bias is another fabric which doubles the skirt as well.

But you're right. I see a lot of possibilities with different shapes for pockets.. and my daughter already asked for hearts on hers :-)

this is great, I love clothes adorned with crochet. you chose a great color of yarn!

did the friend love it?!  i hope so.  i imagine european kids have some appreciation for artisanal things??  a lot of kids here (USA), if they didn't see it on tv or at the mall, they will think it's "too weird".  unless they were raised around crafts... then it's different.

nataluna, I'm not sure how much the friend liked it as I wasn't there during the party.
Also, she received tons of presents and I guess she's more excited by the toys... which is totally normal :-P

Anyways, we also gifted her a store-bought toy as I would hate her not to like my daughter's present.

For me, it's more about showing to my daughter the beauty of making presents yourself. Like we sewed a matching headband in cooperation with my daughter, which she decorated with beads she sewed herself. She was very proud.

And as you say, being surrounded by crafts probably helps her valuing it more.

As for the friend.. we'll see if she wears it. But if she doesn't, that's fine too. :-)

Such a cute idea.  I may have to add some crochet pockets to my favorite skirts.  Skirts never have any pockets, and it's so frustrating!
