I have been lurking on Craftster for months now and thought it was about time I got off my arse and posted Smiley

My sister was getting married and asked me to be one of her bridesmaids, being that I live in outback Australia (and am a funny shape) I had a moment of insanity and decided it would be easier to make my own dress.

I found a pattern (Butterick B4919), had my sister choose and post the material from Melbourne, bought an old bedsheet to use for practise....
and didn't start a thing for 6 months!! oops

8 weeks before the wedding I made a start, and with a few little hiccups & frustrations (like finding I'd bought the wrong size pattern) and having terrible handsewing skills, lots of late nights,I finished the dress!

No in-progress photos..

Finished!

On the big day!

C & C more than welcome... thanks for looking Smiley

It's a really good shape on you, and a good job considering that fabric looks like the type that gives me nightmares (fraying, anyone? Cheesy)

I love your zombie stompers too Tongue

Thats really pretty!

Plus you did choose great material (is that silk? or some kind of structured taffetta?)

The fraying was ridiculous, I ended up overlocking/serging the edges of all the pieces before using my normal sewing machine to put it all together, such a pain!
(I love my zombie stompers too, my favourite shoes!!)

The material is a kind of silk, maybe shantung I think, but I'm not really sure.

Thanks everyone for all your lovely comments!

Your dress is lovely!  It looks wonderful on you and I love the color.

I made a highly altered version of this dress for my good friends mother on her wedding.  They are like my second family so I was super happy to help her make a dress that would fit her perfectly.  She is hard to fit because of her rather generous bust.
