Just thought I would give Najaorama a huge THANKYOU!! for her bag " Waxy canvas conference bag facelift". It was my inspiration for this messenger bag.

you can't see in the first picture, but it has a parachute buckle and a purse snap to keep it closed.

Your bag is so neat!  Ever since I got a sewing machine for Christmas, my goal has been to make a messenger bag.  Here it is April and I still haven't gotten around to it.  I'm always on the hunt for the perfect fabric...the one that will jump out at me and say, "Alas, your search is over, for I am here and together we shall make the most wonderful of messenger bags!"  Yeah...still waiting  Undecided

What kind of material did you use for the heavier black portion of the bag?

(PS - your fabric is perfect for this!)

Summer 6061

I too made a messenger bag last summer for my computer.

http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=319525.0

You asked about fabric type for the solid color.  I used a twill fabric, and you could also use duck cloth/canvas.  I'm not a huge canvas fan 'cause it doesn't wash nicely...leaves wrinkles and you will NOT get them out! Smiley The twill is a heavy fabric but still has a nice feel to it, soft, etc...I interfaced with fusible fleece.

Your messenger bag is beautiful!  I love the print fabric you chose...looks like something I've been holding onto for a winter bag.  I'd like to see some inside photos?Huh?  If you have a chance?

Great job!

Very nice!
I just bought this fabric (the blue one) and it's really awesome. Also, I'm about to make a messenger bag for myself and I think yours is a very good one.

The black fabric on the bag was from Wallmart. It feels like a thin canvas, so I used a really stiff interfacing. I tried taking pictures of the inside but they didn't turn out, bcause I used the black fabric for the lining. (my camera is not so great).

I really like the diagonal flap twist to the bag. Works well with the fabric.

Recently 'discovered' sewing machines and now I am addicted. I have been making clothes and bags and I want to try to make poppet sometime soon.
